15 Things That Aren’t Cancelled During COVID-19.

The recent coronavirus which causes the respiratory disease “COVID-19” has exploded around the globe these past couple months, causing mass panic and fear-inducing anxiety.

No one human has been spared from this phenomenon and as the situation develops, more and more people are being quarantined as public gatherings, huge events, airports, sports leagues, and schools are shutting down at an unprecedented rate.

Millions of people have been forced to practice “social isolation” and stay at home in a global effort to “flatten the curve” of this pandemic and protect our most vulnerable citizens.

These times can indeed be quite scary.

As humans, we’re naturally prone to a state of fear at the hint of uncertainty. Instinctively we panic, we are scared, and we resist change at all costs.

We are conditioned by society to keep going, to keep working, to always ensure the cogs of the great machine keep turning.

Yet now, we are forced to stop. To slow down. To appreciate more of the simpler, wholesome things that life has to offer. Now, more than ever, we must be reminded of the things that were there all along.

Let’s make use of this time we are given to appreciate the little things.

The time with loved ones, the strength found in personal growth, the resilence allotted to those who adapt to change and make the best of an unfavorable situation.

I’m writing today, dear ones, to tell you that not everything will be canceled during COVID-19.

Let’s take this for what it is – an opportunity to take a deeper look at our lives and to spend our time more passionately.

1. Family

One of the most important things on this list and that is our families. Families will not be canceled during COVID-19. Yes, some of us may be thousands of miles apart from our dear loved ones right now, but we must not allow distance to dishearten us. This day and age we are so blessed with technology, that no matter where we are on our planet, we can connect with those we love.

Now, will come the moments of deeper intimacy. Let’s make use of this silver lining and spend the time we have with those we love most be in the comfort of our homes or through the utilization of technology.

2. Friends.

While we may be told to self-isolate, avoid social situations, and stay huddled up in our homes, that doesn’t mean friends are canceled either! We now can connect with our buddies through social media, video chat, and via good ol’ fashioned telephone calls.

For sure, it’s going to be an adjustment to our normal protocols of social activity, but just imagine how much stronger our ties to one another will be when this is said and done?

3. Pets

Pets definitely aren’t canceled! As I sat here and wrote this blog post, my best friend and feline companion has been meandering around the room, spreading his calm and tranquility. I’m even more grateful for him right now. Pets give us unconditional love and friendship even during the darkest hours of our lives. They have an uncanny ability to ease anxiety and lull loneliness! For those of us blessed with animal pals, we can rejoice in their company during this whole ordeal

4. Reading

Reading a book, your favorite blogs(ahem), and other pieces of writing will definitely not be canceled during COVID-19. We are now blessed with an opportunity to fine-tune our knowledge base and dive deeper into our passions and goals. We can use this time to really slow our pace and absorb new information and amp up our skill base!

5. Art

Artists know that isolation and solitude can lead to some profound breakthroughs when it comes to the realms of creativity and self-expression. We can use art as a platform to transmute our negative emotions and release our worries.

Perhaps you’ve been waiting for some solitude to work on a passion project of yours? Now has never been a better time to start.

6. Music

Be it making music, listening to music, or just dancing to it – music will not be canceled during this pesky pandemic! I have to admit, things for me would be a little less manageable if it weren’t for the sanctity of music right now.

I have been using my spare time to practice the Native American flute, something I’ve been wanting to do for some time

Maybe it’s time for you to pick up an instrument and start learning too!

7. Writing

HELLO ASPIRING WRITERS (aka, me). When has there ever been such a perfect time to retreat to your writing nook and tap into that inner flow that has been dying to come out for so long?

Even if you aren’t an aspiring writer, now would be a great time to start a journal, write a blog, or even pick up poetry! Writing is a great wake to ease anxiety and to self-express.

8. Dancing

Are you sensing a trend here? This time of great transformation and isolation makes fertile ground for you to channel your greatest expressions and unleash your inner creativity. Yep, it’s true – dancing will also not be canceled during COVID-19. Put on your dancing shoes, turn up the music, and dance your little isolated ass off!

9. Yoga

Yoga has some amazing benefits above and beyond the physical. Anxiety relief, mental clarity, and spiritual liberation are all side-effects of a regular yoga practice! What a good time to finally hit the mat and stretch out your woes and worries.

I started my yoga practice by watching Yoga with Adriene on YouTube. Her videos were easy to follow, great for beginners, and her way of teaching really inspired me to go deep into my yoga practice. So much so, I’m now training to become a yoga teacher!

I highly recommend incorporating a yoga practice while we weather this storm. Yoga has revolutionized my life and I know it has the potential to help you too.

10. Meditation

Another great way to harness your true potential and tap into the magical capabilities of spirituality is through the ancient practice of meditation. By slowing our minds and fine-tuning our focus, we alleviate much suffering from our lives. A simple exercise of focusing on the natural ebb and flow of the natural breath can have profound benefits! Nope, meditation will also not be canceled during this global shit show. By turning our attention inward, we can create space for more wholesome and holistic life experience, no matter what is happening externally.

11. Exercise

Time to get those booties active! Nothing helps in stressful times quite like shaking up your energy and getting the body moving. Exercise will still be on the menu during COVID-19! In fact, this is a perfect time for such an activity. Exercise is vital to immune functions and overall well-being of mind, body, and soul!

There are many great free exercise programs online, in addition to getting outside for walks, hikes, and solo excursions. Use this opportunity to implement some exercise into your day.

12. Learning New Things

Not only will learning not be canceled, right now is one of the most opportune times to learn new skills and information that can help you achieve your goals and dreams.

You can find knowledge on just about every subject online these days! Now’s a great time to learn new recipes, a different language, or even a new skill that aligns with your passions.

13. Favorite Shows & Movies

That’s right! Entertainment is still a go. When you need a break from self-improvement and crave some creature comfort, your favorite shows and movies will be not be canceled. This isolation period will be testing, it will stress us out at times, and yes, it may be awhile. But by tuning in to some of our favorite things and losing ourselves in stories and animations, we can do a wealth of good for our well-being during troubling times. Throw on a comedy, watch a cartoon, or throw on your favorite YouTube channel, entertainment will not be canceled during COVID-19

14. Self-Care

Here’s one we can all agree that WILL NOT be canceled. One of the most important things on this list is self-care. Self-care will not be canceled during the coronavirus outbreak.

Now more than ever we must do our utmost do diligence to take care of our personal well-being and ensure our cups are filled so that we can, in turn, help another. Take naps, have a hot nourishing bubble bath, do a facial, and pamper yourself often. By fortifying yourself, you open space to help fortify others!

15. Love & Compassion

Most importantly, we must remember that love and compassion will NOT be canceled during this global wave of fear and anxiety.

This is a time to let our hearts burst open with love, and move from a place os compassion and understanding.

Fear cannot thrive in a place saturated with love.

We must extend our loving compassion to our fellow earthlings during this great time of transformation. Through love, anything is possible.

So as things start to close around the world, events get canceled, social gatherings are nill, and there’s anxiety in the air, remember that not all things are canceled during COVID-19!

We can choose to make do the best we can to make the best out of this evolving situation by doing things we do have control over.

Spending time with our families, working on our goals, keeping fit, and learning new things are all things we must now focus on.

Before long, we will emerge from this great threat a stronger community, fortified and renewed.
