3 Easy AF Meditation Techniques that Anyone Can Do

July 11, 2020

Meditation can be tricky. I know you how it is, because I’ve been there too.

It took me years and years to actually figure out a type of meditation that works for me. Even now, as a yoga teacher, I still struggle with my traditional meditation practice.

One thing that I found throughout my journey, however, is that meditation doesn’t have to be hard.

We tend to turn it into this mountainous task that seems insurmountable. It doesn’t have to be that way. There are many many MANY different forms of meditation and there’s definitely a technique out there that will work for you.

Today we’re going to explore three short, simple, and fun meditation techniques that you can use to drop into the moment. Try these easy meditation practices and before you know it you’ll be off on your journey of sweet serenity and bliss!

1. Listen for the quietest sound

This one is probably my favourite. It’s easy, it’s accessible, it’s practical, and it can be done from absolutely anywhere!

The idea is to find yourself in a comfy position anywhere you please, and in an area that is relatively quiet.

Once you arrive in your comfortable posture with your spine erect, you begin to direct your attention to the sounds in the environment around you.

What do you hear? A gentle breeze? People scurrying about the house? The hum of the refrigerator?

Don’t get caught up on the individual sounds. Instead, try and find a sound that is slightly quieter than the one you’re currently hearing.

Keep diving deeper into this method, constantly seeking the quietest sound but never dwelling.

This technique has proven itself valuable to me time and time again. Whenever I am having trouble with my traditional meditation routine, I return to this easy af meditation that is full proof and simple!

2. Erasing your Borders

This one is sorta similar to the quietest sounds technique but instead we focus on our sense of touch rather than the sense of sound.

The idea here is to again find yourself in a comfortable position with your spine erect. Once you arrive in your posture, you begin to notice the sensations in your body.

Can you feel your legs? What about your torso? Where are your feet?

Once you establish this feeling of your body, you begin to generate a sense of the space around you. How does your body feel in this environment? Can you feel your skin?

Once you come to a general sensation of your body in the room or space that you’re doing the meditation, you begin to utilize this “erasing your borders technique”

Beginning with your feet and working your way up your body, you imagine the borders of your body disappearing and melting into the environment around you.

Do this with your entire body until you become one with the space around you. If thoughts begin to arise, you simply return to noticing the feeling of your body in the space and begin the erasing process again.

This is another favourite of mine and it can get really deep and intense. It has the potential to really drop you into a sense of oneness and unity!

Give it a try and let me know what you think!

3. The Shower Adventure

Finally on our list of easy AF meditation techniques we have the shower adventure!

This one leans more heavily on the side of mindfulness and visualization than true meditation but the benefits are the same!

With this technique you create a visualization process in your mind as you take a shower.

The idea is to follow the journey the water takes from the very tips of a mountain or hill, all the way to your town and to your shower. This one can be a lot of fun and is always enjoyable for me, especially if the water is ice-cold.

Beginning with the mountain, you visualize the water melting and gently flowing into a stream which becomes a river. The river then twists and turns and churns into a lake inside of a valley.

Exiting the lake you see another river which flows eloquently along its way, leading to your village or town. From there it enters your piping system and sprinkles its magic from your shower head as it caressing and cleans your body.

There is no set way to imagine this process and you can be as creative as you desire

What I like most about this technique is that really stimulates my imagination. Every time I get a shower now I remember this technique and I end up creating a slightly different path for the water every time!

Give it a go the next time you take a shower and don’t limit your imagination. Take yourself on a shower adventure and let me know how it was!
